Windows crashed last night (actually, the operating system had an illegal operation, causing the desktop theme to utter this) and changed my Internet Shortcut icons - which normally look like the old Communicator lighthouse - into lots of little EMH's. All I could do was utter a microcephalic-esque YOW! I swear I have no idea how this happened. I don't even have an icon of this on my computer. I looked at it for a moment, dumbfounded. Then, I restarted Windows and everything was back to normal. I don't think the title of the mp3 I was listening to actually occurred to me at the time. I'm still wondering whose moment in paradise this could have belonged to...

Aside from the X-files-esque nature of this windows occurence, which in and of itself is enough to send perfectly sane people like me running for the hills, I have to say that your desktop itself frightens me. ;D
I have eight icons on my desktop and it frustrates me because it's too crowded. 8)

I'm a busy hologram The only alteration I made on the screen btw was repeating the panix icon on the left. I thought it fair to mention the only edit action I made.

I'm with Peter - too many icons.
I'm a great fan of multiple toolbars myself. Like to keep the desktop pretty clean so I can appreciate the lovely Hubble Space Telescope shot, or the Voyager shot, (or the piccy of RB if the Other Half is away for a few days)
Now, what caused Word to go loopy last night for two minutes? I opened my diary and went Ctrl+End as usual and the whole thing highlighted and wouldn't clear without a SaveAs! I even virus checked my drive! But everything is fine now.

I'm with Peter - too many icons. You should see the start button popup menu and the icons in each of those folders on there. Ah the beauty of Desktop Theme utilities. I've trained people in Word. Control+End means jump to the end of the document. Accidentally hold down the Shift with the Control and you highlight. This is true of arrow and any other moving maneuver in any text editor in Windows or Mac. Add the shift and the move highlights the trail. Anyway, I think after a tumultuous, soul-shattering week, the incident with the desktop just has to be related. But how?

The rule of 3?
Irrational but frequently true.

The rule of 3? Irrational but frequently true. I thought the Rule of 3 only applied to celebrity deaths.

It applied to anything that throws you 'off balance' or goes wrong. You know, the alarm clock doesn't go off, then the bus doesn't turn up and once you find out the coffee machine is broken too you know you can relax cos that's your 3 for the day!
*shrugs* well it works for me, anyhow.

Why, I never noticed!
I'll have to pay better attention and see if I can detect a pattern.
