Oh great. Now we can be ripped off going to a convention while sitting in the comfort of our own homes. The day I pay up the wazoo for bad streaming video - for the cost of a pay per view special event on cable TV - without the opportunity to save it or get something more worthwhile to show for my hard earned money - is the day I take up basket weaving in a nice, quiet retreat. Have fans become such gullible zombies that this has been looked at as a viable project to predatory investors?

Sign of the future? When no one goes out and risks actually coming into contact with fellow humans (they might carry germs you know) but interacts solely online instead?
Whilst it might be fun for the overseas fans who cannot afford the travel, or fans who are unable to travel for physical or mental reasons, there can't be much point for people who stand a chance of actually getting there?

As I recall, a package deal from my cable company for a day of selected Olympic events was cheaper. We're talking stereo and quality image. If they can make it worth anyone's while instead of preying on the rich completists and those too desperate to realize what they're not getting (another lost chance to see someone in person), then they have something.
The fact is, you're still not getting that moment of interaction or true spontaneity. You're paying extra to get your question asked instead of an autograph. That's really sad. And we get interviews all the time on TV of stars, so the forum isn't special. No doubt the contents would be transcribed anyway.
Four words: It's not worth it.
Trek fandom can be so powerful. Just saying " no" or stating they want something better WILL get them something better. They make it too easy.
That reminds me. I have to put a 1701-D necktie up for auction on eBay once my PC is back home.
