There will be a video/DVD release on 26th February Scott Bakula (Captain Archer) and Robert Beltran *sigh* (Chakotay) starring in Luminarias Other Trek Alumni include Marta Dubois ( Ardra - TNG - Devils Due) and Mike Gomez (DaiMon Taar - TNG - Last Outpost) As it was made in 1999 - before Enterprise got cast, it's a pleasant surprise to have so many Trekkers in it! And it's only Region 1. I hate you all...............

Region 1 is the DVD code set designation for the USA and Canada. DVD makers par the world off into about 7 different regions and create DVDs that can only be played by DVD players from those regions... A Region 1 DVD imported from the USA will not play in an Australian or Region 4 machine. It's damned annoying, considdering the US gets a lot of realeases that we never see over here... or it just plain gets them earlier with different or better features.

7 regions? We have two different video scan signals. Are you saying you can't see UK DVD's anymore? Are they different from Australia or Belgium now?

Nope. And neither can you, unless you manage to get hold of a universal player. Or live in New Zealand where the kind of division they're doing is actually illegal and all DVD players sold or imported there must be universal players. DVD encoding is different to having two or three different formats of video tapes - it has to do with a chip in the machine itself. Also, it's possible to tape from one format into the other - we lack the consumer DVD technology as of yet and probably shall do for some time.
It's actually supposed to be an anti-piracy thing.

In defence, sort of, at least with the regions they can put various language subtitles on for those who need them, without having 100 or more options for you to choose from.
The US is the biggest market at the moment, I just get annoyed at the way they think they are everything and the rest should be grateful for their leavings.
Well, Region 2 (UK/Europe) are getting the TNG DVD's first, and apparently with classier packaging too.
so yah boo sucks to you lot.
