Robert Picardo 1) we are both members of The Planetary Societyand 2) our names are both on a microchip (or two) on board Stardust Stardust microchip main page hereListed in Surname order, so you'd need to know mine begins with an L in order to find it. Hmm wonder who else is on those chips? (R P Beltran, not R A Beltran - I've already looked!)

What is the significance of having one's name on a microchip? And, did you do it because Robert Picardo did it, or just coincidentally you both found out about it and thought that would be "kewl"? ;D I don't think there are two things I have in common with any cast member of Voyager. I truly don't know them well enough that far offcamera.

It's just one of those 'feel involved' things that NASA do every so often.
Because I get the Stardust mission newsletter I had the chance to get my name added back in 98.
And I joined the Planetary Society in 90. I don't know when Mr P joined, but I only found out about his association the society when his name appeared on the Advisory Board Members list in June 99.
Which puts him in the company of Steven Spielberg, Buzz Aldrin, Ray Bradbury, Arthur C Clarke, Lynda Obst, Adriana Ocampo and Kim Stanley Robinson, amongst others who promote the society actively through their public profiles.
So to answer your question, no, he was not the catalyst for my doing these things. It would appear we share a genuine interest in extra-terrestrial planetary exploration. Mine stems from my childhood. I can't speak for him. Maybe his web site gives more information?

Robert Picardo and I both have bad eyesight and hate contact lenses. The difference of course being that a popular role or show wasn't at stake enough to put any on ;D That counts as one or two?
