More selections from episodes featuring the Doctor.
Which monumental moment figures most prominantly in your mind?

I settled for Life Line this time. No comment on the others apart from LifeSigns which is where I've got to on the reruns.
Having seen the totality of Voyager, my attitude towards the Doc has become slightly tainted by season 7. A shame, but an entirely human reaction I'm afraid.

Tinker, Tenor, Doctor, Spy, as this was the moment Janeway could've pushed her first officer off the shuttle ramp. (So other things wouldn't have happened) The ECH is, IMHO, one of the most important inventions in Starfleet history. ;D

I have to go with Lifesigns. The Doctor's life changed in that episode inTO a life. It was a time of self-recognition that he was more than just an EMH. He was a person.

It's cruel to say, but I found out that, without any doubt, German TV didn't show Renaissance Man. Now I know what I missed. I always wondered when the hell Doc told Seven.... and then that dumb.... Argl.... Apart from that I have to say that this episode showed some strange examples of what the EMH is able to do. I always imagined he'd be some kind of virtual shapeshifter, but he never used ceilings to walk before, didn't he? Janeway is right: With a hologram you don't need a crew. Couldn't agree more. ;D

Apart from that I have to say that this episode showed some strange examples of what the EMH is able to do. Glad you could finally see the episode. I always thought he was similar to the Avenger superhero The Vision. One of the Vision's attack methods was putting his hand through someone's chest and materializing his fingers inside, similar what the loony hologram did to B'Elanna in Revulsion. I was just waiting for them to get to what the Doctor could do with his abilities. The Vision could alter his density and become lighter than air to do stunts and fly, and I figured the Doctor could do something similar by altering his own solidity.

There would be enough possibilties for a whole new show... You know, that one with the ship full of Mark 1 holograms... ;D I imagine, they all can't decide about a name. Having a ship full of that (and with abilities like these!!!) could be big fun.

Having a ship full of that (and with abilities like these!!!) could be big fun. Well, I would think that the ethical subroutines and limited physical prowess of most holograms keep them well-grounded. As for names, I address this in my novel, in which two dozen Mark I's work together in dilithium mines. The fact is, it is likely that some holograms will have been given names by their crew, so they won't all have that dilemma. What do you think?

Probably, but then again we know holograms tend to have bad cards when being named by someone else... Schmullus...

To be totally honest... He has as bad cards with me. Schnuffi doesn't sound much better, mh? In Germany usually they only call stuffed dogs "Schnuffi". *coughcough* Love also tends to be deaf...

LOL What do you think about Kenneth from Real Life? Nobody mentions that. (another error in Picardo's book is the Doctor mentioning having tried Mozart and Van Gogh, even though he didn't experience that timeline) Kes suggested Benarin to Samantha Wildman for her baby, but IMHO it sounded like a good name for the Doctor. He behaved as though he would have used it had Kes not recommended it to someone else. It would have added to the significance of their relationship for him to be named for her father. Since the baby was a girl, it's a shame the writers didn't go back to that.

On the other hand we don't know exactly how time works for artificial life forms (think of Marvin, the Hitchhiker's Guide roboter who was twice as old as the universe due to time-hopping). To be honest, as much as I love Real Life, even I would've said, he had no name in it. Maybe the Doc didn't see it as a real choice, as Tom never really was Captain Proton. Benarin really seemed to please him. Anyway, I think, the time line should be altered to make some things more fitting... ;D

And you know we don't know what they called him on the speedy planet (you reminded me about him living an additional 3+ years).

You're right. He probably had a name down there... Maybe we should call him "Man (Hologram) of the thousand names". ;D
